For the first few minutes of operation, it was a bit hard starting and prone to stalling. After some break-in running it's far more consistent, but will still occasionally stall from idle. Restarts very easily and so far has not been a problem. Plenty of cutting power.

My complaint is with the design and build quality of the extension pole. Somewhere around the 4th time I used it the drive cable mechanism fell out of the pole as I disassembled the unit for transport. It is retained by a flimsy stamped-steel washer, which is supposed to be prevented from sliding out of the tube by four crimps around the perimeter of the tube. The washer managed to find its way past the crimps, and the whole assembly slid out. Another problem caused by this is that if (when) the washer slides forward in the tube past the crimps while the unit is assembled, it prevents the spring-loaded button which locks the tubes together from being pushed in. I needed a fat pair of pliers to squeeze the button. Got the tubes apart, at the expense of bending the washer (which is now even less likely to stay behind the crimps where it belongs). I'll probably engineer a permanent fix by putting a second set of crimps in the tube, to keep the washer from moving in either direction. But I prefer tools which work without requiring me to modifiy them to fix a design problem.

I can't believe I spent years climbing trees in the yard, using ladders and manual pruning saws. The Poulan Pro PP338PT is the pruners friend for sure! Very little assembly out of the box, add gas mixture and chain oil, follow the easy starting instructions, and within a pull or two you're up and running. This saw turns days of pruning into hours...and it's fun too! I was teetering between buying a cordless Black & Decker and a gas pruner....did a lot of research and decided on the Poulan....great price, great product, great decision, free Amazon shipping and unit arrived within a couple days of ordering.

I only needed a pole saw for occasional use. After pricing what Stihl and Echo get for their products I decided this was a much better path to go. I put this on a Ryobi weed wacker and it works great. It comes with a shoulder strap, a mounting point for the strap, and a little jug of bar oil to get you started. My only complaint is I wish the bar was a little longer, but I am sure no matter how long it was I would find a branch that is a little bigger. It sure beats using a hand pole saw.

Bought this item about 10 days ago Poulan Pro 17-Inch 25cc Gas Powered String Trimmer after I've sent another weedeater back that was hard to start. The first weedeater I bought was a curved shaft and it was very hard to start and keep running. So I was a little hesitant to purchase another one from amazon. Once I opened the box all I had to do was attach the 2 pieces together and also attach the safety guard. It took about 3 minutes to put together. Also if buying the attachments, you will be able to switch them with no problem. Also if you take your hand off the throttle, the weedeater will stop, and the engine will still be running (nice safety feature), and when you put your finger back on the throttle, the weedeater will be ready to start trimming again. I actually bought mine for $99.00 shipped when Amazon had their weekend sale. I think this is a really good weedeater at $150.00, but at $99.00 it's even better.

This is the greatest trimmer. It is easy assembly, easy start, and quiet running. It is a plus for me ( a female ) to have a great running trimmer like this one. I have owned several in the past, and this one is great. It is quiet running even when it is trimming, and stays running at a slow idle when not trimming. It starts so easily, and runs really good-cuts great as well. I am happy I got this one!!!!!!!

Owned 2 gas chainsaws and a Craftsman electric chainsaw and there is no comparison, this chainsaw is awesome.

I thought I would wear out the easy dial to tighten but I was wrong.

Oregon S54 14"/16" chain fits and lasts the longest for me. Fits tight on loosest setting so when the chain stretches you have a long way to go before you have to replace it.

The engineers at Poulan are awesome and so is the management. Nowadays you see too many managers judging engineers on how much money they can save the company by cutting corners and I commend Poulan.

Bought this about 6 months ago, have used it only once for about an hour. Works well on fallen limbs. I look forward to when the weather warms up when I can attempt to fell a tree with it.

Only drawback is the manual oiling mechanism. One must pump a button once every minute or sooner to keep bar and chain properly lubricated.

Not a bad piece of equipment for the price.

My search for an edger attachment began with the Troy-Bilt unit. I have a Troy-Bilt string trimmer, so I figure why not stay within the same brand? Well, there's a clear reason not to - their edger attachment does not work well at all. Cumbersome to maneuver and hard to control to get a clean edge. Also cuts poorly. Bought it at Lowes, and it went back the same week.

So, the next stop was the Expand-It attachment. I saw it on Amazon for a very nice price, but was not sure that it would be a keeper. So I bought it at HD instead. Very glad I did, since it also was returned the same week. While it cut better than the Troy-Bilt, it was very cumbersome to use and difficult to adjust.

Fortunately, the third time was the charm. Tried the Poulan based on the positive reviews, and am happy to say everyone was right! This works very well, cuts great, easy to adjust, and I had no problems maneuvering it right from the get-go. Solid construction and clear instructions round out the list of pluses. I'm using it on a 2-cycle Troy-Bilt trimmer and have no problems getting through thick grass/dirt.

The attachment comes with shoulder strap and "better" handle.
It only takes seconds to swap out and back in.

The bad:
The extra weight makes the unit vibrate significantly more, which quickly becomes tiresome.
It doesn't seem to be that effective - I was expecting thick brush to be "vaporized", but the blade seems a bit dull, and the amount of effort required was surprising.
As another review states - this item has limited use - weeds/shrubs around 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick, too thick for a trimmer but not thick enough to need a chainsaw/pruner attachment.
Also, seems to get tangled up easier than the trimmer, but that might just be my inexperience using it...

Overall then, not bad, just not quite the "obliterator" I was expecting.

As usual, Amazon's delivery exceeded my expectations and their prices really cannot be bettered,

My factory-refurbished Poulan P3314WSA (14" Wood Shark) chainsaw arrived last week. The order was well-packaged and complete, and the unit had been cleaned and refurbished very well after some previous use. The bar and chain were new. The bar spacer was in place to protect the saw during shipping, and the instructions and bar-tensioning tool were new.

It started up per the instructions, and has been working for me on small to medium-size jobs every day since. It does drink bar oil, but that's better than being stingy with it, I guess.

The only problem was a bent but useable chain tensioning screw. I wrote to Poulan on their customer service website, and got a response the next day saying they're sending me a replacement. Though it hasn't arrived yet, I'm hopeful.

So far, it's an excellent value. I wish I had bought the 16", since the 14" blade is kind of overwhelmed by the saw body, but that's my bad. Maybe I'll get a 16 or 18" saw next.

First, the shipping. Even the free shipping option from Amazon delivers this product pretty fast.

Second, the product representation. The product is listed as a P3416, but the box says that it is a PPB3416, which made me a little nervous that it might not be the right model, I really did *not* want the "Patented Tool-less Chain Tensioning System". The photo shows a green saw and the saw I received is red, but other than that, it is exactly what I expected. Also included is a chain tensioning tool and owners manual.

Third, the performance. The included chain and bar were in good shape. The saw was clean and while obviously not new, was in very good shape. The saw fired right up the first time, be sure to follow the starting directions. It doesn't always want to run at idle, but always starts right back up when warm. I have ran a few tanks of fuel through it, cutting trees up to 12" in diameter with no problems.
It seems to use bar oil at about the same rate as fuel, fill both at the same time. Its' better than too little oil causing the chain to overheat.
This saw does seem to have a tendency to leak fuel when sitting, especially if tipped to the side; I think that the fuel cap isn't sealing properly, it doesn't have a rubber gasket. It is a very minor leak and storing the saw leaning to the side prevents it.

Finally, the bottom line. I wouldn't want to try to cut enough wood to heat my house with this saw, but for the homeowner or small acreage owner tasked with cleanup, it is just right. You could spend $400 on a Stihl, but for occasional use, this $90 saw will do just as well. I would not hesitate to purchase this saw again.

- The unit arrived and appeared brand new, never used.

- Fired right up on the first try.

- More than enough power to get through everything I've tried to cut.

Minuses:

- As received, the nut retaining the blade clutch was loose so tighten this if you plan on running the engine much before cutting.

- The "Tool less blade tensioning system" is a joke. Frankly, it's an incredibly bad design and unsafe.

- I bough the saw knowing this as most of the new Husqvarna/Poulan and Sears Craftsman have this feature also so I went ahead and ordered the old tensioning system from Poulan (P/N #530054819). Even with the added cost I still saved a lot over the cost of a new saw.

This chainsaw has worked out well for us on our Avocado ranch. We bought 5 of them and let abusive employees use them on and off for about 5 years. We're down to three that still run. You can buy a replacement bar and a few chains for them and the engines will run for quite a while. After the engine goes, just toss them. We used to have an expensive Stihl which lasted even less time and then would have cost $250 to rebuild. We just threw it away and started using disposables. If you're not going to use it for a while, drain all the gas out or you'll be sorry.
